What's Innit?: Peace Massage Bar Hello Folks! Have you used our Peace Massage Bar yet? It’s a beautiful, chocolatey scented wonder that helps bring peace to troubled emotions. The story behind this massage bar is simple and inspiring. Head Lush man Mark Constantine was deeply saddened by the 2011 riots in the U.K., and that people would stoop to such a level. He immediately took himself to the Lush Spa and thought about the Synaesthesia treatment - our Synaesthesia massage asks customers to pick a word from our wall of emotions, and we talior-make that massage to achieve that word for them. Mark picked four of the words from the wall - Forgiveness, Acceptance, Calm, and Content - as he thought these best represented feelings of Peace. These oils behind these words were combined with wonderful cocoa butters to create the Peace Massage Bar. Now, we’ve got a heavenly little massage bar to help everyone feel at ease in times of turmoil. And because that’s so special, we just couldn’t keep it for the spa treatment - and we started selling it in our stores, too! That’s all very nice, isn’t it? Now all that’s left to say is … what’s innit?: Fairtrade Organic Cocoa Butter - Cocoa Butter is derived from the Cacao Tree that grows in the hottest regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. The butter itself is the result of a long process; the trees sprout pods, which are filled with around 50 seeds. These seeds are fermented, to take away the bitterness, then they are coasted and cracked to get rid of the hard shells. Then they are ground down and put through a high pressure process to separate the butters from the powder. Our cocoa butter is provided by a co-operative in the Dominic Republic, called the Conacado Group. By sourcing our cocoa butter from here, the co-operative can help provide for the local community and improve living conditions. We use the cocoa butter here for its beautiful fragrance and skin softening properties. Organic Shea Butter - Shea Butter is a natural fat that comes from the nut of the Karite Tree. We source our Shea Butter from a co-operative in Ghana, where women do most of the process by hand. First the nuts are sorted, depending on their state - black ones are too dry, brown ones will yield the best quality butter. The nuts are then crushed and roasted to extract the butter. It is a long, difficult process and the women work very hard to get the best results possible. Shea butter quickly sinks into the skin and also aids other oils to be easily absorbed too, but without leaving the skin feeling greasy. It can protect the skin and has also been proved to aid in shielding from UVB rays. Fair Trade Olive Oil -All the olive oil we use at Lush UK and Lush Japan comes from the Sindyanna of Galilee project. Based in Israel, the co-operative unites women across the Palestinian/Isreali divide to provide economical success for the area and funding for local communities. The company is named after the Palestinian Oak tree in the region which symbolises longevity, stability, and connection to the land. We use the olive oil for its softening properties, and it also gives skin strength and protection. We also love it for the feelings of endurance and comfort that it gives to anyone who uses it.
